Understanding and Supporting Children Through Intense Emotions
A talk for parents of toddlers and kindergarten-aged children-approx. 1½ to 6 years old
When young children suddenly scream, lash out wildly, or cry seemingly without end, parents are sometimes left feeling unsure and unprepared in the face of such intense emotional outbursts. However, these behaviors are not simply acts of naughtiness by "cheeky" children; rather, they are often expressions of powerful emotions such as sadness, fear, feeling overwhelmed, and more.
This evening session aims to help you better understand these behaviors in young children. You will gain insight into our stress-processing systems and learn a method that can help you
maintain healthy boundaries and respond to these emotions with greater composure and confidence.
